Methylselenocysteine induces phase II enzyme activity and protects organs against chemotherapy-induced toxicity. In other models, methylselenocysteine increases expression of Nrf2, heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), catalase, and glutathione-S-transferase, protecting against radiation-induced oxidative damage.
