Ketoconazole is clinically used to treat fungal infections; it inhibits 14-α demethylase, preventing ergosterol production and cell wall synthesis. In clinical models of prostate cancer, ketoconazole decreases testosterone and cortisol production and inhibits androgen receptors, displaying potential chemotherapeutic benefit.
